Admiration

This morning I was reflecting...
There was a point in my life, not too long ago, when thinking back on that time, I felt very vulnerable and emotional. When in the company of people who were new I would feed off of the excitement. I made friends very easily, requiring them to share every detail of who and how they are in the world. This seems ridiculous now. Why require such intimacy from these people? I feel that even more quickly these friendships were lost because of the insane amount of intimacy, I thought was so important. Why was I so obsessed with the prospect of a new person? Maybe it was my age, both mental and emotional. Whatever that some thing was, I hope that I have in some way 'grown' out of it. Trying to get to know people takes time. I am very familiar with this length of time. Even though I want to know people instantly, I feel like the best people will surprise you right away, but finding out why is worth the wait.

Misto thoughts

Another day sitting, with no plans, and on this rainy day I feel pretty good. I'm calmed when there is rain. This morning in particular I'm going for a walk...a long walk. I hope it takes most of my day and that I can do as I please without too many distractions. That would be a great day.

Landing

One if the most amazing things I have ever been witness to was, without a doubt, the landing of the Mars rover Curiosity. Even though this moment took part within the last twenty-four hours, I am still emotional. Early this morning, I took part in what I think is the single largest step for mankind. We will soon know more about the Red Planet than anyone before our generation. And, whether you believe it or not, it is possible that more than one human will step foot on that planet within our life time. I have no aspirantion to travel into space or to explore the universe, but I recognize the grandeur of this venture and the scoop of the process to get there. I appreciate the significance of exploring the universe and want to better understand this Space that surrounds me. What an amazing thing!

Todays Cup

Well, today marks a trial...I'm convinced that drinking coffee so early in the morning, so much coffee so early in the morning, is distroying my stomach. That being assumed, I'm going grocery shopping, I created a menu which includes breakfast, and I'm hoping I can over come my wired eating pattern.

So here's to the first day of an earl grey morning with breakfast, lunch, and high protein dinner!

I'm celebrating with an iced Misto at noon instead of two cups before 8am.

My body hates me...

Vroom!

Recently I ventured on a journey to South Dakota! Yep, that's right...Most notably South Dakota is known for its wide open plains and the Black Hills. I have visited this expansive state a number of times, but this time every place I passed was only a memory. Stopping only to fuel up my rental car, I rested my head in Pierre. Pierre is the Capital of South Dakota and smack dab in the middle of the state, making getting there very difficult. Driving there was fine, but driving back was torture. Ten hours, ten hours of speed across 850 miles of country. I crossed two borders and made it back to Milwaukee in relatively good time. Next time, though, I'll be starting out earlier. Driving in the dark was stressful. So, back to my journey, otherwise known as vacation. My vacation was ten days total. First leaving Milwaukee towards St.Paul, Minnesota to see a concert stay with a friend. Then I headed to Pierre for a five day stay with E. Basically, I had planned on getting there and nothing beyond and that is exactly what I did, nothing. It was a delightful time away from my usual routine. Here's to vacation!

Todays Cup

As I sit in one of my favorite coffee shopes, I am draw into conversation with my favorite barista, Genius. I also work for this shope part-time and outside of being an employee I spend every day with this place. I am dedicated to coffee, to independent businesses, to small (although Mil town is not so small) town coffee culture, and to a vision to provide excellent coffee to everyone. It's not rocket science; running a coffee shope, but it does take some thing special. The key is community. Without smart, passionate people who are invested in the same vision you will lose every thing. Not even the best coffee will keep people coming back. From the perspective of a patron you are investing in a service and a product that you could do without. Everyone can make coffee, especially at home, and everyone can save a buck by staying at home, or simply stop consuming the product. As an employee, the investment is simple too. Foremost, you're in it for the money. You need a job, but what interests you in the beginning is some thing more notable. And the same can be said whether you are the owner, manager, barista, or patron. You love coffee! You're not just addicted, you love the smell of coffee, the taste of coffee, the sound of the brewer or Espresso machine, and the feel of a warm cup of coffee in your hands. But all this would be nothing without a community of people consumed by an addiction to being served a product they could do without. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Just a thought.

Nom, nom, nom...

In this week's review, much fun was had by all...
Gert visited me! Our challenge, beat the heat. With a record high, some thing like 100 degrees, we chose to eat our way across Milwaukee. After the morning brew, Columbian, we headed out to the Pancake House. I ordered a half order of French Toast with a side of bacon and Gert ordered Potato Pancakes...and boy did she get 'em! 10 of them!!

Today's Cup!

It's coffee time! This morning I got going a little late today, but I finally got a cup of coffee. In Today's Cup I'm drinking Anodyne's Brazil while sitting at Roast Coffee Company.
Almost every cup I have consumed I have documented. I'm trying to keel track of as many details as possible. However, I have missed a few cups and I also lack the will power to keep up with posting these details. For some reason I feel that I need to keep adding material to this blog that is not only coffee, but some thing more substantial.
This being stated, I think I'll just hey over it and start keeping you up to date. More content will be added and I promise numerous cups of coffee. Maybe I will keep a running tally of every cup.
I welcome your support and your cups too! What are you drinking?

Quintessential

I'm marking this day as my third anniversary of living in Milwaukee. Since moving to Milwaukee in July of 2009, I have experienced a full spectrum of life changing events. However, there are just as many, if not more, quintessentially Milwaukee things I have not experienced. Shortly after moving to Milwaukee one of my favorite bloggers, Grace Bonney from Design*Sponge, published a city guide to Milwaukee. This summer I am planning my Milwaukee Grande Tour. Here's to a great summer of fun! Leave a comment with your must see things...

So far, I've taken in a lot, but I still have a long way to go...

Here's to you

A majority of my life my companion, my doggy, has been a Jack Russel Terrier. I don't think that I could ever have another type of dog. When I was little there as the television show Wishbone and the star of that show was a JRT and when I started watching Frasier Moose was the star! So, when the Oscar winner for blah blah was the Artist I thought about the little guy Uggie. He's so cute!

Neil Degrasse Tyson

I know you remember this guy:
No this is not LeVar Burton (I'm not talking about Reading Rainbow) This is Neil Degrasse Tyson! (and don't you wear it out!) He's such a wonderful speaker. Every time I hear him speak I get all charged up to learn more about science and space. Learn more!

Goals

Recently, I started making a lot of goals. There is no real reason why I am making goals, nor am I trying to set myself up for failure, nor is it because its the New Year. I think its just one of those things. And, this ones related to my coffee habit; addiction. *cough*

Document every cup of coffee I drink for a month, then if all goes well; a year. I'm also going to try to detail everything I can about each cup. So, you can look forward to seeing how much I drink.

Drink up!

Notable History

As most of you are aware its a new year; yet another year to try some thing and call it new, just 'cause...Here are some things to reflect on and remind you of things past.

January 1
The first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar.
This year there are 365 days and counting. (364 because I'm writing this on the 2nd)
Most western European countries changed the start of the year to January 1 before they adopted the Gregorian calendar. For example, Scotland changed the start of the Scottish New Year to January 1 in 1600. England, Ireland and the British colonies changed the start of the year to January 1 in 1752. Later that year in September, the Gregorian calendar was introduced throughout Britain and the British colonies. These two reforms were implemented by the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750.
January 1 became the official start of the year as follows:
